Damascus Knife Forging Course

In a three-day blacksmithing course with up to three participants, you will learn to forge, weld, grind, harden, and fit your own Damascus knife with your desired handle.

Duration: 3 days, each from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Schedule:
Day 1:
After a brief safety introduction and discussion about the design of your desired knife, we will begin with forging and welding.
On the first day, you will learn to operate the power hammer and create your Damascus billet with up to 99 layers from your desired steel, followed by your knife blank.
We will assist you with the design and shaping of chef's knives, carving knives, hunting knives, outdoor knives, or replicas/custom pieces.

Day 2:
This is followed by shaping with belt grinders and angle grinders (Flex), and then hollowing the blade.
For this, you will work on the belt grinder for the flank grind.
The second day concludes with hardening in a quality hardening oven.
Afterward, the blades will be tempered by us in the workshop.

Day 3:
After you have chosen the handle wood for your desired knife, we will begin with the fine grinding.
You will start with coarse sandpaper and work your way up to a very fine grit to achieve a particularly rust-resistant and even surface structure.
Then we move on to fitting the handle: whether it's a stick tang or a full tang - you will now learn the precise fitting, gluing, and grinding on the belt grinder and the subsequent hand grinding.
At the end of the workday, you will oil and wax the handle and can take your finished, razor-sharp desired knife home with you.

-Fire-resistant cotton work clothes
